Attached/linked please find And That’s The Week That Was…the Brounes & Associates market/economic commentary for the week ended October 5, 2007. So was it -4,000 or +89,000? That is the big question du jour (“of the day” for those less fluent in French). This week’s unemployment release reversed some negative perceptions about the “sluggish” labor market. While some economists and investors may feel better about the labor picture after learning about the September (and August) job growth, others are simply confused and losing confidence in the value of these numbers. While financial companies continue to suffer ill-effects of the subprime woes, the markets got a positive jolt from a number of sizable business transactions this week. Even the small-caps seem to be pleased. And by the way, Happy Columbus Day (but don’t forget…the stock markets are open). Coming up in the week ahead: Retail Sales (Friday), PPI (Friday) Comments |
